"I'm divulging the Art of Fencing with these Knightly and Manly Weapons, which at the current time for us Germans is of greatest necessity, to which my best understanding and abilities are well and truly described for uptaking, and although the lesson given is obvious, that fencing with the sword is not the sole origin and wellspring for all other fencing arts, it is celebrated among other weapons for artfulness and manlyness, and because of it I have what's needed for good understanding from which to make progress, and thus quickly, so onward I see with clarity how with wise handling all this can be applied in other arts and disciplines."

-Joachim Meyer, Free Fencer in Strasburg ANNO MDLXX

Welcome to the Todesengle Fechtschule, here in you shall find the art of fighting and fence as practiced by members of the Todesengle Fahnlein. This document shall first impart unto you the knowledge of the proper way of stance and movement so that you may navigate the pike lines and treacherous footing of the battlefield. Following an understanding of the proper form and manner in which to move we shall then examine the basic guards or postures that you shall come to find as comfortable you mother's womb and which shall protect you just as well. These basic posture's we will then extend to include their variations and adaptations which will make you most versatile and deadly as your training proceeds. Next shall come a discussion on defence and the ways in which one can avoid the blow or if necessary deflect it with your own blade. Now that you have learned to defend you shall learn to attack and the ways in which you might defeat your opponent. With the basics well and truly learned we shall now blend them together and begin to see how one flows into another. From here the different weapons you shall employ will be examined and discussed in detail.

The work that you hold in your hands has been compiled by Fechtmeister Gustav Weinrich, Federfechter Tillman and Weibel Helmut. The lessons that we have learned and the things that we teach are our interpretation of period sources. They are the product of years research by those who have gone before such as the Fechmeister and Journeymen of Fence Hans Yosef. These are the answers that we have found and that work for us.
