here is more to the Guild of Saint Maximilian than Renaissance Fairs. There are many activities that members participate in outside of fair. Ranging from sewing seminars to sword practice, there is much that can be done.
Sword Practice
Sword practice is held at Dove Beeger Park in Redwood City on Saturday. This is located at Whipple Ave at Circle Rd Redwood City, CA 94062, right across from the hospital. Practice begins at 10:00 am and lasts until 12:00. Because of poor ground conditions, we do not meet if it is raining or has rained in the past few days. Therefore, practice is usually held in the months of May through October.
The weapons we usually train with are the longsword and dusack. On occasion, we will train in other fighting styles including the pike or unarmed combat. For information regarding these weapons, please visit the weapons section of the website. Their history and usage will be described therein.
Please bring to practice a pair of gloves (fencing gloves or gardening gloves), a helmet or fencing mask, and some form of weapon. For more information, please contact us. In fact, it would be best to contact us before showing up just to make sure we will be there. Some weekends are hectic and meetings have been known to be canceled at short notice.
